What To Expect
Probably, the best way to understand the roots of the Bulgarian Renaissance Period is to learn about Koprivshitsa's 19th century houses with their colorful courtyards. See them as they are surrounded with high stone walls and gates, walk through the curved, narrow and cobbled little streets and enjoy the numerous stone fountains that contribute to the attractiveness of the little town.
Many of these houses have now been transformed into museums, but each one of them has its own unique characteristic, which suggests partly the main business and the family size of its owner. Meanwhile, another place of interest is the church called "The Assumption of the Virgin" and the "Mausoleum - Ossuary - 20th April," which is devoted to those who died during the April Uprising.
The walking tour will last for two hours, but you will of course be given a free time for lunch and shopping. On the way back to Sofia, you will travel through a different route - you will go through the valley of Strelcha, famous for its rose oil yielding rose bushes that are in full bloom during the months of May and June.
