About St Augustine

The oldest European settlement in the USA is St Augustine, having been established in 1565 by the Spanish admiral Pedro Menendez de Aviles. At the time it was named San Agustin, and was the capital of Florida under Spanish rule for two centuries. Today it is a popular tourist attraction due to its historic colonial Spanish neighborhoods, lovely buildings, authentic old sites, and museums. Travel into the Spanish colonial past of the United States in 2015 with our tours and activities.

Hop on an Old Town Trolley Tour of St Augustine and learn about the history of the oldest city in America. Hop on and hop off as you please from the trolley that will take you to over 100 points of interest at 20 different stops. Visit the Authentic Old Drugstore, built by Antonio Gomaas in the early 1700s, and which once sold Native American traditional remedies, liquor, contemporary medicine and herbal treatments. Visit the famous St Augustine Pirate and Treasure Museum, the largest collection of pirate artifacts to be exhibited at a single location, and see incredible relics like the blunderbuss of Blackbeard and gold coins from his ship, the Queen Anne’s Revenge. Hop off at the Villa Zorayda, home of the millionaire Franklin W. Smith in 1883, and now a part of the National Register of Historic Places. All these sites and more will be available for you for three days, including unlimited use of the Old Town Trolley.

Enter the eerie St. Augustine Old Jail and have a look at one of the last surviving jails from the 1800s. Visit the sheriff’s quarters, where he and his wife lived alongside 72 prisoners. See used weapons that were last discharged long ago, and male and female cells separated but both still within the prison limits. Be guided all throughout by your jailers, who will explain the history of the jail.

Take a walk on the darker, spiritual side of St. Augustine with a ghosts and gravestones tour. Here you will embark on a “Frightseeing Tour” of spooky places in the city along with a Ghost Host, whose tales of misfortune and supernatural apparitions aren’t just tall tales - they are well researched and documented throughout history. Also see the Lighthouse Park and the Old Jail, where you may get a chance to capture something on camera that is far out of this world.
