This historical port is probably the oldest in the world, at nearly 6,000 years. Its significance is both Biblical and mythological: Jonah was said to have started his sea journey that landed him inside a whale’s belly here. It was also here, according to mythology, that Andromeda was tied to a rock for a sea monster to devour; she was saved by Perseus in the nick of time. Today, it is a haven for artists and craftsmen. The area has numerous galleries, art shops, and antique shops.
