Description

Enjoy a breathtaking view from Mt. Fuji and visit the historical mountain resort area of Hakone. Explore Kyoto's 1,200 years of history with a visit to the Tokugawa era shogun's residence, Nijo Castle, and the gold-leaf covered Golden Pavilion and its exquisite surrounding garden. Visit Kyoto Imperial Palace and see its elegant interiors. Walk through Sanjusangendo Temple, Japan's longest wooden structure, and browse the specialty shops on the walk up to Kiyomizudera Temple, where you can enjoy a sweeping view of the city. Admire Heian Jingu Shrine, a partial replica of the Imperial Palace.

Day 1 : Tokyo - Mt. Fuji - Hakone - Kyoto

Depart from Hamamatsucho Bus Terminal by motorcoach for Mt. Fuji (travel time a total of 120 minutes).

Transfer to Mt Fuji 5th Station in about 30 minutes. Climb 2,300 meters (7,546 feet!) above sea level for breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji and the surrounding lakes on a clear day. Torii gates, shrines, and souvenir shops decorate this station known as the border between the heavens and the earth. Enjoy a Japanese-style lunch.

In the afternoon, go for a sightseeing cruise on Lake Ashi in Hakone. The crater lake was born from a powerful volcanic eruption nearly 3,000 years ago and provides postcard views of Mt. Fuji from various angles. Then, catch sweeping views of Mt. Fuji, Lake Ashi, Izu Peninsula, Izu Islands, Hakone National Park, and more while climbing up and down the mountain on Mt Komagatake Ropeway.

Toward the end of the day, proceed to Odawara Station to board the Hikari or Kodama Shinkansen to the classical city of Kyoto (total of 120 to 180 minutes travel time). A transfer may be required at either Nagoya or Shizuoka. Upon arrival at Kyoto Station, you will be dropped off at your hotel. For your accommodations, you can choose a hotel from the hotel list below.

Day 2 : Kyoto - Nara - Kyoto

Do some morning sightseeing around the city, visiting Kinkakuji Temple (Golden Pavilion), Nijo Castle which is noted for its gorgeous interiors, and Kyoto Imperial Palace. After lunch at Hotel Heian-no Mori Kyoto, go on an excursion to Nara, the first permanent capital of Japan. Visit Todaiji Temple which houses a Great Buddha, colorful Kasuga Taisha Shrine which boasts 3000 lanterns, and Nara Park (Deer Park) where there are many freely-roaming, tame deer.

Return to Kyoto.

Day 3 : Kyoto

You have free time until your departure back to Tokyo. In the early evening, head to Kyoto Station and board the Nozomi Shinkansen back to Tokyo. Upon arrival at Tokyo Station, you will be dropped off at your hotel.
